What's happened to Welfare Central?
Every time I click the link I get an error message, and now it's not showing up on Google.
I tried to register there a few months ago (when I was referred to WHP) and wasn't able to. I know some people here used to be members and were banned, too.

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
......Just had a look at WC. Easy to register. One thing that I observed was that there is just no index of categories, so it just a list of topics in date order. It is like a news aggregation site with queries thrown in as and when. There is no quick way to find anything. It is not the first place I would go if I wanted to look for help.

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
@ Paul, yes, just been over there and having found the index it is certainly easy to find the category I am looking for. There are some very interesting posts and lots of replies to queries raised. I shall be going between this site and WC to see what I am missing.

Having now tried to join in with the conversation at WC, I have observed that posts cannot be left in 'real time' and have to be approved by the mod's.
I will not be bothering again.

The rules:
Welcome to our forum.
You have made it this far, now all you need to do is get your first positive and constructive posts approved, you can then join in the discussions.
Members who have not posted within 7 days of registration will have their access to the forum restricted for 7 days. Three strikes and you are out.
Welfare Central is not a spectator sport.
Creating a second account will result in both accounts being completely erased.

Just the First post needs Approval, this is done to prevent scammers posting porn
and promoting Advertisements.
Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
Thanks ND and Paul. I had not read the forum rules. Now I see the reasoning (scammers) I realise that this is sensible. I will have another attempt at getting involved.

Censorship on welfare-central site.
Caker I wouldn't bother with the site.
Massive censorship of posts, some posts removed, even a whole thread of over 200 posts about policy around the world on drug testing welfare recipients and cashless welfare cards was mysteriously deleted with no explanation.
Posts about conservative MP pleading quilty to expense fraud was also mysteriously deleted twice.

Yes I was banned because I undermined the admins authority on that forum.
That admin seem like a grumpy DWP coach that can't stand anyone not falling in line. My advice is also to avoid this forum, because you are certainly not encouraged to stand up for yourself there.

@ echidna and Jara. I agree with you both. I have also been banned from WC at some point.
I only have renewed interest in WC because it is a bit livelier. No criticism of this site at all, we just need more members and more interaction.

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
admins are there to aid there site and to keep it running smoothly
i try to keep the site openly censorship is kept to a minimum and its members police themselves and keep it within reason on hot topics

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
I think the way this site is run is just right.
I have limited experience of how WC is run but I believe the deletion of posts without explanation is quite unacceptable and certainly meets the description of censorship.
I don't even know who runs WC now. Did Benefits Bolshie used to be Committed Claimant or is it some different person just using Committed Claimant's old avatar

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
Wasn't this the reason why this site was set up in the first place? Prominent members of the old Unemployment Movement forum, such as yourself, Mary, Caker and "Admin" were banned for no apparent reason? I do remember clearly Caker sent me a pm on Welfare Central shortly before being banned, and that pm was mysteriously deleted soon after...Jara wrote:Yes I was banned because I undermined the admins authority on that forum.

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
This post identifies a number of people being banned from Welfare Central:
https://respectfulbenefits.forumotion.com/t4-hi-everyone
They say a week in politics is a long time! Two years have nearly passed since the upset regarding the move from one site to another.
There are good people on both sites who provide invaluable help and support to members as well as guests.
Each site is different, Caker for example, likes the interaction where as I prefer the righsnet formular. Lol
It is disappointing that posts have been removed on wc. I noted no-one thanked echidna for his/her considerable contribution before doing so and without explanation.
It is inevitable people will have strong views about the content /management of any site. If people want to contribute on other sites other than this one that is fine. My main concern is, that there are so few people contributing across the net per se.

I totally agree that there just is not as much participation. I remember when I first discovered UM, there were some brilliant discussions going on. It felt like a great place for shared learning. That site changed my life, and I don't mean in a trivial way. I miss the shared learning.

Re: What's happened to Welfare Central?
I understand Caker.
I think we can sometimes reach a point that most subjects have been explored and dissected. Social security Law has not changed a great deal, but the regime has changed significantly and it has created considerable pressure for Jobseekers as well as people claiming disability benefits.
