Brexit Central Empty Brexit Central

17,410,742 people voted for the UK to leave the European Union at June 2016’s referendum – more than voted for any political party or proposition at any election or referendum in British political history.

BrexitCentral is here to provide an online home for all wanting to follow the twists and turns of our departure from the EU and hold the government to carrying out the instructions of the British public.

We are committed to bringing specialist coverage for everyone in the UK and beyond who wants to understand and make a success of Brexit.

We believe that the vote to reject the costs and bureaucracy of the EU and take back control over our laws and our cash was a positive move and we remain unapologetically optimistic about Britain’s future as an independent, free-trading, global-facing sovereign nation.

Patriotism only benefit local elites at the espense of the "common people".
That's why it has always been the preserve of the powerful in any society. Call out the attention to a real or imaginary external enemy prevents those that suffer the yoke of their own masters from looking at themselves and their conditions and a similar situation in other "foreign countries".
In the modern world, technology is globalising the use of energy sources, creating a great wealth that benefits international consortiums that do not respect pre-existing power group, as one would expect from even a cursory glance at past history.
Brexit is the first step toward repression and impoverishment and rejecting "the costs and bureaucracy of the EU" only means embracing the larger and meaner "the costs and bureaucracy of the UK".
The fact that so many people voted for it (roughly a third of the registered voters) only underlines the timeless and atavic emotional appeal of tribalism.
