As we look to a post-pandemic future, more and more local authorities are getting behind the idea of a Universal Basic Income. The case is stronger than ever, argues Simon Duffy, not only for creating a more egalitarian society, but in freeing people up to play a greater part in local life and decision making.

I also believe they will be forced to implement this idea sooner rather than later or maybe dress it up as making the recent UC increase permanent and ring fence all 50+ age group into sections of the population who are likely not to work ever again for a variety of reasons.

The low wage economy that's been in place the past 10 years is now going to backfire on them in that there will no it be much difference between working for mini wage/low pay and UC.In some cases when factoring transport costs it will make obvious sense to remain on benefits as will make no financial sense to travel and for some, wont even be able to afford to with no car etc.

It's always been the way that when people 'work' they want money, not a bowl of rice and then told they can sign on too.Ludicrous idea and all the jobsworths out there, who have been calling unemployed lazy scumbags are going to get a taste of just how good it is to be stuck on UC etc.

The bullshit of having a job ,any job for any pay will no longer compute Twisted Evil and for most living in the real world never did. However, people have been spun this fiction for all it's been worth and now chickens will come home to roost.

Its all about very simple maths income vs expenditure as to if you can afford to work for rock bottom dollar and id say they will be living at home with mum and dad.Dosent matter what your politics are the numbers dont work in many ways.So the answer is the total opposite to their mantra of 'WORK WILL ALWAYS PAY.' When effectively it no longer does for many millions which will be the case pre and post Covid.imo
