Revealed: DWP fit-for-work tests cost more than they save
TFN wrote:More cash is being spent on controversial fit-to-work assessments that is currently being saved, an official report has shown.
A National Audit Office (NAO) study found that it will cost the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) more than £1.6 billion over the next three years to carry out the health and disability assessments by private contractors.
However the NAO also found that savings in benefits payments are likely to be less than a billion pounds by 2020 as a result of the new tests.

Prety sure that is the case as we have seen posts in the past reporting on how the sanction regime is costing more than it saves in bloated administration fees.
The whole thing just further highlights to me how this is like a war of ideology against the poor.

I agree TheFinnster. It is about time the whole thing was scrapped and that the DWP relied upon the medical evidence provided by the GPs/specialists who actually treat the claimant, without formulaic assessments performed by nurses with no occupational health training.

Auditors expressed surprise that the overall impact of sanctions on public spending remained unknown within Whitehall. The report said the DWP needed to do more than react to problems and said: “[We] cannot conclude that the department is achieving value for money.”
