The author posted privately so re tweeting does not apply.

I am sure a great deal of information from this site and UM is posted on 'AN Other' site without the author's consent!

Interesting points; I expect there is a very wide amount of Information on an endless number of topics shared between multiple forums around the world; A Poster could take legal action, against content copied and re-posted, But the legal nightmares of finding the person who copied/pasted such content And the Site owners that had such content posted on would be a legal and very expensive nightmare.
End of the day Don't post anything you are not happy that "Anyone" might view or share.
Legal authorities WILL take action on copy/sharing of Music & Movies.

In Addition On Any Forum Administrators who are concerned about unauthorized copying/sharing of Content could make the forum partly or fully "Private" so avoiding such problems.
Sadly this would result in no "Guests" and a much harder job to promote and grow a site.
It's all a question of Priorities.

With regards to the first post in this thread (with the quoted section) there is nothing to identify the author, unless the GAS is localised to one JC (or a few JCs). Then the person would be one of several people who have been assigned to the GAS regime. Even then, it could not be known exactly who s/he is.

There could even be DWP spies on the other forum. Nothing on the net is totally anonymous.

My personal view is, that common courtesy and respect prevails in regards to the privacy of on-line posts/communication and the sharing of information without consent.

We all share information from various sites, but the overarching rule is to take care about what is shared as well as how much and that credit is given to the author.

I think private forum posts are generally not for sharing regardless of the content or the pseudonym being used.

I always assume that just like me, the DWP or my work coach might read any posts in here. It would be easy for at least one of my work coach to identity who Jara actually is. Occasionally I leave out some details or tell a slightly different version of what happened but I am not really sure that done much to protect me, rather it probably confused some people here with the lack of details or other things. In the end, even if my work coach reads our posts there is not much they can do. I can only hope they learn something new Smile

this is why we use a disclamer at front of some of the forums

like with media information

MEDIA NEWS
news and newspaper articles and other stuff, linking to information posted belongs to their respective owners please only use a snippet of information with the link

this is to provide a direct link to the article that they have produced and therefore can be read upon there website therefore the respective owners still hold there copyright to the information held there

site admin acknowledges that a snippet of info is only used and that there respective owners have copyright we provide a link to the article whilst promoting advertisement of there website upon these forums

whilst on this website we carry the required copyright info

Jobseeker help and all its information belongs to there respective owners. We appreciate it if you link to our site from other sites with a brief description added to your post.

this is also for our own benefit as well

we dont mess with copy/sharing of Music & Movies. and any posts has to be removed but linking of youtube and dailymotion videos is fine to do so

jara there is always a risk that forums may identify people but it depends on what your posting about and what info your providing on any forums people want info to aid themselves in a situation so some info must be divulged upon those forums to gain the required info

yes you can take it to a private pm if you want

however to aid others consent has to given by that individual for it to be released this has in many cases aided others who have been fighting there cases

I myself released the info that dwp was using psychs and released the letters that was even asking for consent in one hand but refusing to be recorded at the dwp at the same time

many have released other info to aid others hence the reason why jobseeker help really does exist in the first place

it used to be by word of mouth by the older end nowadays its more online just comes with a certain amount of risk

I feel I have opened a can of worms here...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The trouble I find in this day and age with the internet, that as we all know we live in the 'global village'. So everyone know everyone else business? Shocked I apologise if I have over stepped the line.  pale

Admin:"Jobseeker help and all its information belongs to there respective owners. We appreciate it if you link to our site from other sites with a brief description added to your post."

This I did as I didn't want people to think it was my own work. As well as to give people on this forum, an idea of this GA-session.

@El-Dude
It is good that you brought GAS to our attention. Anyone might be affected by it and forewarned is forearmed. Basketball

In general (for anyone) I would say that if it is a media news story then quote the source (to avoid copyright infringement) but if it is a personal story then leave out the author details. Anyone is free to assume that the thing you are mentioning actually happened to you personally.

My take on the issue is that copyright laws are fundamentally against us.
In this respect I have no qualms in breaching them, however HH and Admin have a both a valid point:

One should try and respect other wishes on the matter (it may result in detrimental effect on the writer)
and
it is certainly counterproductive and immoral to bring the wroth of the law on the Admin and the Forum itself.

I suggest that general blogs or articles from sources that are clearly meant to be re-quoted (for instant BIEN) that carry a legal copyrights disclaimer, like this site, for legal reason only, could be quoted in full with acknowledgement.

Other copyrighted sources, papers, articles from magazines, etc that could be relevant, but that could not be viewed easily on the original links (for instance I have some access to some subscription magazines) could be hosted on a third party site (like a google doc, etc) that would clear the present Admin from legal problems and would make copywriter enforcers effort mostly meaningless.

Dear El-dudeareno,

My concerns are much wider than one interesting post that will not cause any harm to the author.

fair usage has always been my quote

ive always quoted to use the webpage link and an exert to describe what is on the page i have posted full pages but have been advised not to do before so reverted back to just a link and a line of info being used

if you want a read up

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/reposting-articles-fair-use.1992096/

and another

https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=147756

a court reference to this fair usage

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/03/court-declares-newspaper-excerpt-online-forum-non-infringing-fair-use

im not a films and music copyright lover i find it a rip off and uk is the capital of that

there is a reference to fair dealing here in the uk

It is a concern with the speed of changes in technology, what is done and what isn't? And thank Admin I'll have a look at the links. study

Which is wise because the government can get access to and read everything any of us has ever written, including anything on your pc hard drive or phone, whenever they want to under whichever spurious "law" they've made up in order to give themselves power over others. It's best to only write what is defensible if "confronted" about it by some officious government minion Wink

Brutus wrote:My take on the issue is that copyright laws are fundamentally against us.

Agreed. Copyright law was originally intended to stop booksellers (the equivalent then of Corporations now) from making money off authors who weren't being paid for their work. It's was basically to stop theft, but it has become something so utterly twisted that the ordinary person fails to understand even half of the Act. Add Creative Commons and Fair Usage into the mix and the whole picture becomes very muddied and confused for people who haven't read up about it or who don't think it applies to them.

We are told that "ignorance of the law is no excuse" yet entire libraries are filled with "laws" no-one has the slightest knowledge of and wouldn't understand them anyway without a "law degree". Twisted Evil The "law" is no longer accessible or even makes the slightest sense from a humanist position. Rather than burn down the houses of parliament it would be better to burn down all the law libraries lol!

this has come of interest to this point

https://www.thecanary.co/uk/2017/09/29/independent-site-accused-guardian-nick-cohen-not-crediting-story-broke-opinion/

with the reference above

Tobi Oredein of Black Ballad wrote:On the day Esme’s story was published on Black Ballad I saw that writer Nick Cohen  gave his email address to read the story. Today, he published his article. Nowhere did he even provide a link to us, or say that we broke the story.

Once again, mainstream see a popular story & erase the efforts of black women who helped bring the issue to light. He erased a platform for black women and got paid in the process – classic “privileged” journalism. We have received abusive emails for publishing that story and I don’t care because I would do it again. I don’t appreciate it when privileged journalists don’t give us the credit we deserve. Don’t be doing heroics off the backs of black women & then erase us in the process. Providing a link is not much to ask and the very basics of journalism in this day and age.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA takes from niche platforms like Black Ballad & refuse to acknowledge our existence. Same old tired story.
