The article author makes a number of common pitfalls.
The main one is to mistake "automation" for the substitution of present activities. It is rather the automation of future activities.
So that the "future jobs", the one promised by the overall increase of the economy, will be the one with less human need.
Another is that the promise of "new jobs positions" that are not existent now will require a level of sophistication and specialisation that not only will require higher level of education but also of understanding.
It will mean that technocrats will proliferate but the vast majority of people will loose out.

I see it as common sense, as the technology becomes more complex, future employment opportunities will require more complex understanding, it is in the nature of "automation" to replace first the simple and common functions in the world of work.

UBI is an inevitable necessity as it is a more ethical redistribution of the world wealth.
No amount of optimistic apology for a work-centred existence can change the path laid in front of us apart from a drastic reduction of the human population or of their living standards.
