dwp tells doctors surgery not to issue sick notes

Declared fit for work under the DWP’s hated Work Capability Assessment scheme, James Harrison repeatedly asked his GP to issue a ‘fit note’ declaring him unfit to work. Despite repeated appointments (and as many refusals), his GP consistently declined to issue one.

This is an issue of GPs failing to understand that a claimant can score points in a WCA and still be chucked back onto JSA despite them not being fully fit.

I wonder if doctors in general and GPs in particular, have the vaguest understanding of the issues around the WCA. They clearly need educating.

......with regard to the second article, I agree that GPs should not be paid extra to diagnose dementia or any other illness. It is a basic part of their job.
Additionally, if GPS are paid extra to diagnose dementia then the less scrupulous ones might be tempted to condemn patients to a dementia diagnosis when that is not correct. There are other conditions which mimic dementia but are treatable if correctly identified.

I suppose all one needs to say to a GP regarding the WCA is that if you aren't half dead you won't get to stay on ESA.
