Anyone else planning an all nighter and who has a wishlist of Portillo Moments they hope to see befall certain politicians, may be interested to know that the results for the loathsome Ester McVey and Mr Duncan - Smith, are due to be announced between 3 - 3.30am. Polling apparently shows neither are as guaranteed to retain their seats as previously - come on voters of Tatton and Chingford, don't let us down.

To your comment thou Ignatius: "myriad of municipal venues on show". I always wonder how many of these 'Pop Up Venue's' there are in the UK. And how much does it cost the Local Authority/Tax Payer's.??? I dare say ( call me a Sinic, if you wish) that some people down the line make a Bruce-y Bonus , out of it arrangement. As most voters could commute to single central location, or postal ballot, or even a converted 'Flu Jab bus' if out in the sticks? 🧐

Hope to god Labour won't be going down the same road, but very worried as they out of all parties are keeping eerily quiet about their plans for unemployed etc. I smell a rat coming.
Be a huge bag of cheese wotsits and a 6 pack for me Be pausing my movies and flicking back and forth to see what the latest voting figs are. Let's hope the polls over the past month are correct. Think I will have a full meltdown if i see a Tory win. Be tragic.

Re: 2024 Elections
In most areas the count is done in a council owned venue, such as a leisure centre or similar, so not a money maker for the usual spivs. A big, unavoidable expense is paying people to staff polling stations and count the votes.
My postal vote was sent off last week so, like jobberpw, I just need to decide on my party food for the night and which TV channel to watch it on.
Anyone who plans on voting in person tomorrow - remember your photo id.

Still on a positive note for you Ignatius. The Tour de France, Euro's 24,Wimbledon 🥎, and the greased up Wrestling Match that is Political Election... I'm sorry to say to me its like watching a 'One Horse race'. Still have they improved the graphics. From the days of the 'Swing-om-mater'🧭 (the cardboard poster with an arrow on it). And a presentater that hasn't been stolen from a grave🪦. Need anyone to add some Emojis, I'm your fella..

Like jobber, I too don't expect great improvement in life under the DWP with a change in government. Nevertheless, I intend to savour each and everyone of our Tory tormentors who gets their overdue comeuppance overnight. Listening to a boffin on the radio earlier, he said by about 2pm there is enough exit poll data to know the result but as they are bound by electoral law they are sworn to secrecy.

Sad thing is, they will carry on making bigger piles of cash somewhere else, leaving a wake of suffering behind them without as much as glimpse back.

I'm tired, so forgive me if I'm wrong or posting wrong information. But I'm sure I read the Torys were looking into the possibility of limiting benefits, in a similar style how to Reform would like to do it. But again I might be mis-informed.
If we voted Reform, this is something we could have been facing:

All job seekers and those fit to work must find employment within 4 months or accept a job after 2 offers. Otherwise, benefits are withdrawn.
Now how would that affect me with long term and permanent health conditions?

In terms of their attitude to we who don't participate (much) in the workforce, I don't know...my HOPE is that they realise how fucking disconnected the DWP is from how to get the right job per claimant, and at least move to some kind of volunteer, BUT paid schemes.
What I'd like; you have x.x million unemployed, so you create x.x openings ROUGHLY proportionate to whatever sectors (construction/facilities management/healthcare etc) we are in. Those openings can be in public, private or mixed sectors, if private then companies are heavily subsidised to give people who want to work but are just a bit lacking in interview/social skills and/or have huge gaps on their cv's holding us back. This would both fill the gaps in the cv's and give a fuckton of confidence to hitherto unsuccessful jobseekers, if you have an employer, finally, who REALLY likes having you around, you'll feel a lot better, just opens up a world of improvement. Personally I'd have taken this up like a shot, as long as they were paying a fair crack, the work didn't have me tearing out my hair, and I could up sticks and leave the minute I got a better offer, which if that didn't work out, I could go back on the scheme with no recriminations and pick back up.
No, I'm not expecting any party to do this, including Reform, BUT just that if you asked me which party was least unlikely to do it...I'd hazard Reform. BTW...I didn't vote Reform yesterday.
(Big change of topic)
However, what IS terrifying, and where I absolutely agree with Reform, is the looming threat of radical islamism. I'll just say I'm very well placed, for reasons I won't go into, to listen to their chatter, and it's quite ominous. In about a couple of decades, 3 tops, it'll come to a head, and it won't be pleasant.

At the risk of stating the obvious, it wouldn't as I guess those conditions render you unfit to work.
That "contract" would result in riots, and ironically would drive down wages as desperation kicked in, you'd have hundreds of thousands of vacancies that were offering 30k suddenly advertising MW. A lot of the X million out of work WANT to work but just can't find anything. As I said in the previous post Reform would have been far better off spending extra and creating X million jobs. I'm strongly of the belief that about 99% of people who are unemployed WANT to work, just not in jobs we aren't gonna be happy doing. If those jobs were created, bye bye JC.

I would love to have a one-on-one with Mel Stride, Rishi, and Hunt on the restart; they wouldn't last 5 minutes. No doubt the truth comes out after 14 years of Tories control: how many disabled people have died by the DWP? How many restart participants been abused and bullied No wonder these pricks (MPs) are leaving the country after the election defeat something to hide.

The threat from Reform is them dragging mainstream parties ever further to the right. Reform polled strongly in mine and neighbouring constituencies - constituencies where the local population is overwhelming white and British born. Riddle me that.
