If you're going to be earning over £1000 and want to be legit about it in your case, my understanding is you need to set yourself up as a sole trader and do everything else that is required (Register for self assessment etc).

https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-trader?step-by-step-nav=01ff8dbd-886a-4dbb-872c-d2092b31b2cf

It might be worth talking to someone like citizens advice. They should be able to give you more detailed information.

Yes the sole trader does seem to be the only way... can't think of any other way around it, - i wonder if it's complicated? Supposed to be going on holiday next week and haven't told jc about that yet - will have to though as next meeting is same time as next appointment.

Just to add, the jobcentre aren't going to accept or leave you alone for a cash-in-hand type situation like what you're describing. Them knowing about it would likely be a problem for you. You need to either be employed or self-employed.

Hope you can enjoy your holiday.

They would close your claim if you notify them. I'm not sure if you would be able to do a rapid reclaim when you return and not be put onto UC.

Actually, no one can be required to be self employed. It is a choice. The work coach is wrong.

Hi caker, I've rung the tax office and they're saying the same thing though, that I have to become self employed, they said anyone who earns over £1,000 a year has to be self employed if they're not on PAYE. I earn £120 a week, which I've declared in journal, I get paid by cheque. Now the job centre have set up an appointment with one of their self employed advisors and I'm supposed to bring in my bank statements. If you're saying the work coach is wrong can you explain why and what info I need to challenge this.

As leaf has outlined, the job centre will not leave me alone over my current status, I either have to be employed or self employed - no way round that.

be warned samosa if you take up self employed you will have to prove that you can be self employed and no longer on the take from the system

this happened with previous providers who told thousands to leave and sign off and go self employed

what they didnt expect was that the taxman got wise to this and then stated new self employed people had to prove they was self providing and prove it

if they didnt they would have to pay it all back

it happened on TT's site and was well posted then

providers pushing jobless into self employed just to get there payment

Does anyone know what the current covid isolation situation is? also if a person has more than two periods of illness in a year can dwp still sanction a claimant for not attending a meeting? if you have covid symptons and a cough..

tts site is where many of the old members come from

https://respectfulbenefits.forumotion.com/t356-unemployment-movement

if i was to say this site is over 6 years old now and i was a 5 year old member on UM before that

so some members are clocking 11 years of knowing each other and many of them have contributed to whats on this forum

If you are working for a single employer and not a number of clients, that business is using self employment to dodge any employment rights that they owe to you. If they stopped needing you to do work for them, would you still be self-employed, or would you be unemployed?

Does this arrangement really meet the IR35 regulations? May be worth checking here.

Hello caker, the lady I'm working for is in her 90's, she isn't bothered about me being self employed, she just wants to pay weekly, it's the work coach and job centre that say I have to become self employed, also the tax office is saying the same thing, tho the person I spoke to there was rude and didn't even know who ACAS were
