Jobs fair/ joke Fair.

Been asked to go to a Jobs (joke) fair by my work roach, never been to one. They are holding it in another joke centre. Apparently the army will be there, I don't think they will be interested in a 55 year old stoke survivor!! Also there will be a web solutions company, Engineering company and the Y.M.C.A, amongst others. Any tips on how long I will have to endure it, and how early can I escape. It runs from 10.a.m. - 2.00 p.m. and I'm booked in from 11.15 a.m. Evil or Very Mad

Blend in, get a few leaflets walk out after 10 minutes.

I'm never sure what to wear at these events

. First one I attended I went in a suit & tie confused

. To find out all of the stalls staff where in Polo shirts and jeans (casual attire)...

I usually go in t-shirt, ripped jeans,and trainers in line with; the quality of work and pay on offer. They say, first impressions count

Same if i had to attend but i am the one soaked in sweat in need of a shave and hair cut. Got to learn to cut our cloth accordingly.

They will no doubt suggest give it time, that roaches do a special cheapo haircut for all claimants. As they specialise in that skill too. Specific to our needs and therefore will help us get into work quicker and with a hair cut from Roach Ville bound to get hired. Very Happy

Been to about 6 of these circuses'. No stress. Go in, look around, ask a few questions if you like and exit within a reasonable time.

Dont forget to ask where is the free coffee or booze. Always goes down well. Twisted Evil

I'm also of an older age and like yourself with health issues and no way, are many employers looking to put the likes of us at the top of their ''lets hire you list.'' We unfortunately, are being used as sheep fodder, cash cows for provider companies bums on seats mean prizes so to speak. You will find much information on this forum how best to counter act any unnecessary circuses if you wish.

I always wonder where the money

comes from to fund these 'Events'

???
As the venue must cost money to hire out. Yet I don't see how they fund these 'Events'

? Is it some secret Swiss

or a Gringotts bank account, that the DWP

has

. Unless it's some accounting 'slush fund' to launder

some money???

I can feel a FOI coming on of DWP

's financing of these 'Events'

Yes Pintel. I also would like to know in general the DWP have a never ending money pit for "back to work circuses" and yet, in past 12 years not come up with one to ring fence claimants who clearly would be suited for engineering or building trades.
Easier to let them rot with the rest of us doing cat sat on the mat etc and tell the masses they've managed to get millions into work. Just not the kind where the pay reflects a half decent lifestyle.
Still it's early day's yet, 2022 and living like we're back in the 70's.

Why are you "booked in" at a specific time? Why are you booked in at all? You can normally just drop in any time you want or has C19 changed all that?

Go in, look around, pick up any free pens you can or anything else, get a few email addresses and contact numbers from any firms that look like they might have a job for you. You can even follow it up afterwards. I got an interview out of a jobs fair. Didn't lead to a job, unfortunately.

You can leave whenever you want. It's not an interview.

They did this with me and a friend of Mine Absolut. Totally stupid. As everyone just arrived like a big herd of sheep in the pouring rain. A nice que amassed outside the building, as if we were all going to see a rock concert. To shame everyone into the bargain, they also had photographers taking pics for the local paper. Told the reporter to **** right off.

Be interested in hearing how mintsue got on.

On leaving they made us all sign a bloody book. I signed out as the terminator Twisted Evil

Well that was no use. Turned up a bit early, had to give my name so they could tick me of their list, so making sure you turn up. It was busy , but seven of the companies mentioned on the leaflet weren't there. I live just outside of Stoke, so Stoke City F.C. are after match day staff on a casual basis- no good for me because it involves a lot of standing- up to 8 hours . Morrisons were there , but they want warehouse staff, again not suitable. Alton Towers were there, but I can't drive , and there are no buses other than the one that takes customers from Stoke station , so no good. The Army was there, too old! Also there was training available , but for 16-24 age group. An engineering company was there, no use to me again. So I picked up a few leaflets ,and after 30 mins. left. Don't know why they had timed slots, they were just sending sheep, sorry customers up as they arrived. Evil or Very Mad

... Still its time you can record on your Job Search activities, not sure if you can add in the commute

The last one I went to I didn't even come back with any free

Sometimes I think these events are just to see if you attend, if you didn't attend the wc would know cause they put you on a guest list..🤮

My thoughts exactly Cat woman when i attended. Nothing more than a bunch of control freaks.

Same old companies, same old jobs, crappy hours of work, locations 20-30 mile away, with unliveable wages and that was 3 years ago. When do i start Evil or Very Mad

Just knew they'd try this game of ''we dont think you attended.'' Due to that i actually took some pics of the roaches on desk when i entered. They didn't like it, but explained why and followed up with 'as you have a moron photographer outside snapping away for bloody England without anyone's consent ...here is mine to photo you Twisted Evil

I guess that now due to the cost of living etc be less of these circuses to go to .After all, their a waste of claimants time unless they are particularly young, living at home with mum and dad and therefore can live on the wages being offered. We've all been there at sometime.

Its about time as their so keen to waste billions they started giving out tea and bics instead of those crappy pens and note pads Smile
