The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has said it is already moving on to the next phase of a controversial new plan. It’s for jobseekers who claim Universal Credit. The DWP’s latest pilot scheme will see claimants sanctioned if they don’t commit to intensive job search activities. However, it will also reward staff who force the most claimants back into work and off benefits.

How do they square the Civil Service Code of Conduct with this incentive nonsense? Targets are so much easier to achieve if you bend the rules. Unlike spiv sales people, WC are supposed to merely deliver what benefits law provides, not make the rules up to hit a target. I forsee plenty of potential for troublemaking jobseekers to land WC in it if they start bending the rules to get their bonus. Wouldn't that be awful🤣
