Jobcentre Union Vote for Strikes Empty Jobcentre Union Vote for Strikes

Post by Ignatius Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:00 pm

Members of the PCS union, which includes DWP staff, have voted for strike action.

Will have to keep 👀 on this one.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/nov/10/uk-civil-servants-whitehall-frontline-services-vote-strike

On the PCS site which listed results by employer area (and won't let me link to it) the DWP vote was overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

Only "all of December"? Have you gone soft, Catwoman? Sadly it will be a day here, day there type of strike. Or your WC may decide to cross the picket line so you have to sign on just to annoy you.

Don't forget there are 3 bank holidays over Christmas and New Year. JCP staff used to get an extra BH, previously known as a Queens Day or some such, normally taken between Xmas and New Year so one of those may fall on your signing day. I normally go a month between appointments come Xmas because my signing always clashes with a Bank Holiday. I'll be gutted if I'm still out of work come migration to UC and I lose my Monday signing slot. I've done very well over the years with Bank Holiday Mondays.

Or #Catwoman, you get a 'scab' Roach clown like mine, whom isn't a union member. For them its just another day to harrass claimants ☹.

Presumably claimants would either have to cross the picket line to sign on or face the consequences.

Pintel, will your scab WC be refusing any pay increase, improved working conditions that this vote to strike is about?

According to the BBC a decision on any strike action will be made on 18 November. Worth keeping an eye on the PCS website and the JCP section in particular.

Jobcentre Union Vote for Strikes 1259455036  I think they are going to give any pay rise to charity, and refuse any improved working conditions, and get back to the Victorian Work-house mentality.

What is the point of a Saturday strike? To piss claimants off.

Hopefully you misheard. I thought 26 November was train drivers strike day. PCS website says a decision will be made after some meeting on 18 November so don't lose hope just yet

Rest easy Catwoman. I've found the PCS link and any strike dates will be announced after 18 November.

So they can be at their desks to piss us all off on Monday Twisted Evil Laughing They have to be seen to be doing something even though millions know it's ultimately nothing. Pay rise denied. Effective, immediately.

You can't keep a good roach down. Although we will try Twisted Evil .

I asked the WC about the potential strike when I signed on this morning. The union rep had told her that should they decide to strike the action will be targeted to maximize disruption to government policies, rather than all out action across the civil service. Customer facing staff will probably not be expected to join in any strike. Hopefully she has been misinformed.

* Maybe these Customer Facing Staff, would be worried about their jobs.? As if they went on Strike, this might highlight how much tea drinking and staring aimlessly at a vdu🖥️ screen, some of these staff do....🤫

Only one problem at #Oneman.

There's a national shortage of Egg's 🥚, due to Avaian Flu?🤔

So might need to find a different substance, to throw at them? If that's what you meant, and not 'egg them on'🤔?

Apparently the strike is only for 48 hours and will only be held by a few DWP call centre staff.

Seems totally pointless.

Maybe they might escalate there action. As other PCS union members are also striking. Hopefully it won't end up like the 1980's miner's strike with scuffles between the parties.....

I almost feel quite bad about starting this thread. I got everyone's hopes up that the WC were going to down tools and walk out.

I thought my WC was pulling my leg last week when she told me they wouldn't actually be striking, despite the vote. She did say the official reason they'd still be at their desks was because the union thinks the claimants wouldn't cope without the face to face service 🤔

Maybe the WC🤡 is worried about miss out the Xmas party at the JCP. Mine its a mince pies and Mulled 🥂wine for the staff & claimants alike. Even the security don paperhats🎩 and greet everyone with a 'Merry Xmas'... Who would want to miss this to stand in a picket line, so no worries #Ig 😉..
