How does the Kickstart Scheme work?
10 key questions answered on the long-awaited £2bn plan to get young people into jobs.
The Labour Party government introduced a similar scheme more than a decade ago.
Its Future Jobs Fund was introduced in October 2009 to support the creation of subsidised jobs for unemployed young people. It was aimed at 18-24 year olds in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance.
It was managed by the DWP in partnership with the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Jonathan Reynolds, Shadow Secretary of the DWP, has slammed the government's handling of Kickstart and claimed it is letting down young people.

Re: How does the Kickstart Scheme work?
This like everything else thats come before it will not work and particularly for older people.
Do they really think, that hundreds of thousands who have lost jobs and more to come, will just miraculously go to college get a few A levels and that's going to make a scrap of difference when all that's on offer ultimately in the UK is ''ware house and shelf stacking jobs.'' That's the largest part of what we call an economy and many who have worked in it could not wait to leave. Unfortunately, for those who have lost their jobs after being in well paid employment for the first time, going to find out what's on offer in the UK when your faced with the job centre and universal credit. The problems going to be lack of jobs, too many chasing them, and employers taking the piss even further, with the idea of, 'how much can we not pay these people.
They've allowed manufacturing to be outsourced on a grand scale 20 years ago and has never returned.
We are now not only faced with the outcome of a pandemic to deal with, trillions of debt, millions to be unemployed and, technology changing at a fast pace of which robots will be taking even more jobs. To talk about upskilling people effectually to be working in a warehouse is a joke. UBI for 50 + age group and training for all 18 40 year olds as it is these age groups that will be working and looking to join the economy. There are 100s of thousands stuck on the UC tread mill because of the way the stupid system works and the pathetically low paid jobs that '''were'' on offer.

@J
I think you might be confusing the Kickstart scheme with this other initiative

I totally agree that re-skilling is not the whole solution. Highly skilled jobs have been lost and the people who did them have not become de-skilled just because their jobs disappeared.
While free further education might be great for some people it will not help others
