Hasn't this always been the case of blaming the lowest in society for the ills of the powerful .

Yeah a working friend of mine likes to divide the unemployed into "those who are making an effort" (not defined) and "lazy bastards". I once went off on one at him about how such thinking divides us all and that the only credible answer was to give everyone an unconditional income. I said I couldn't give a toss if someone wanted to stay in bed all day and not work, it has such a minuscule effect that it's insane to concentrate on it, particularly when banks create credit out of nothing.
But I was

.....My response to people who think they 'financially support' those not working is 'when I get a job, will the government then start paying you back the money I was supposedly taking from you?' i.e. will you be better off when I am in work?
They don't think of it as the government keeping more of their taxes.

Re: Why do people care more about benefit ‘scroungers’.
the silly part in all this is the poor and average person spends more on new things than a person thats rich and saves it all
what would be good for the economy is allow people to spend more and keep wages going even silly dole money creates a better economy and keeps money flowing
the effect of better spending also brings a country out of recession far quicker than a policy of reduction part of reason why weve not got out of the recession as money is not flowing enough as people tighten there belts and buy only whats needed

@Admin', this is very true; While the better off can hoard their money, it merely flows through the poor en-route to elsewhere.

May be we could try the ‘Trickle up Philosophy’, helping the poorest in society. To get the economy going, as this ‘trickle –down’ Philosophy hasn’t worked? Or is this just back to the idea of the UBI…

The money already trickles up. We get it and it trickles up to someone else.
