(Apologies if I posted this in the wrong subforum)

I am afraid it is another big 'pork pie' from DWP to frighten claimants to open a bank account to save money:

In Department of Work & Pensions documents leaked to this newspaper, DWP staff are told: "We need to pay most of these customers into bank accounts which cost 1p, rather than into Post Office card accounts which cost up to 30 times more. You should be aiming to get nine out of 10 new claimants [to use] bank accounts, with a small proportion paid through Post Office card accounts."
Chris Pond, the work and pensions minister, says that these particular leaked documents relate to unemployment benefit payments. But there is widespread anecdotal evidence that, when pensioners ring up to apply for a Post Office card account, they are also actively discouraged from doing so.

The law does not require a claimant to have a bank or a post office account to claim benefits.   Suspect

Thanks for the posting Admin Smile , for people like me with no Bank account and such a bad credit rating that no one would touch me. What after Nov 2021 thou?

"A contract has been renewed that will secure the future of the Post Office card account until at least November 2021, the government has confirmed."

tried to open a UC claim today, refused due to no bank account Empty How is Universal Credit Paid?

Post by Mary_FV Thu Jun 29, 2017 12:46 am

Payments are made by automatic transfer to the claimant’s bank account. Bank account details are completed as part of the claim process and any subsequent changes to those details should be notified to DWP. DWP have arrangements to make payment by a separate service for those unable to make use of mainstream bank, building society or credit union account and this method of payment should be discussed with the claimants work coach.

Edit:

What can happen in the real world:
