In a new series, i reveals how the controversial Universal Credit system is affecting the lives of people up and down the UK through emotional and financial stress.

Pauline Boyd has been on Universal Credit for nearly two years. Every day she lives in fear of having her money stopped through sanctions. She signed up to the controversial benefit system in January 2017 after struggling to make enough money to survive as a self-employed personal trainer. But like thousands of others trapped within the Government’s flagship social welfare system, Universal Credit has caused the 49-year-old from Lanarkshire enormous emotional stress.
