I presume she means that poor children should take Saturday jobs whilst their better off peers are concentrating on getting their GCSE and 'A' Level coursework done, to obtain A* grades (to get them into the most competitive university degrees).
School is like a full-time job and children need downtime to recharge for the following week at school. I have nothing against summer holiday work when the exam's are finished for the year.
