Contact lenses, pacemakers or hearing or erectile aids are already in this category.
I strongly believe that this is actually the (not too far) future.
We are simply living in a period of limbo before the genetic engineering revolution.

I agree #Brutus, how long would it be before there are people getting rid of their limbs for cosmetic reason and replace them with robotic attachments? Not to mention of the Military Vet's to whom have lost limbs due to conflict,and have them replaced.

Predictions are always difficult. I would say however that the pace of innovation is exponential and vastly outstrip the ability of the general public and their politicians to understand the implications.
The omens are that a bloody transition period is in the making. This will slow the overall progress (actually distort it as resources are rerouted to particular area of development, for instance war) but eventually, barring a general thermonuclear was (which is still a distinct possibility) or similar, a stable system, on a global scale would emerge.
A wild guess would make it as long as the previous bout of innovation, roughly two generations or about 50 years.
