DWP surveillance
Been reading this about the dwp surveillance!!! While I take everything thing with a pinch of salt from Aunty Internet (Gaslighting)... Just wondering if the Dole(DWP ) has ever been approached by to this site about anything? 🤨
"
"It has always been known that the DWP (Department Of Work And Pensions) surveil benefit claimants who are suspected of committing fraud. This is often based upon their opinion and reports made by members of the public, but how in depth their surveillance is was previously unknown. 🧟
The DWP also encouraged to use open source information such as social media, internet use, internet chat rooms, forums and websites to gain information regarding benefit fraud.
They can also use a claimants social media to assess their mental capacity too.
They do this without any medical qualifications and often without any knowledge of a persons disability and how it affects them.
. I’ve seen DWP officers check a claimants social media before their appointment, thus unbeknown to the claimant they’ve lost a part of their privacy.

Re: DWP surveillance
From what I understand surveillance does go on especially in regard to benefit fraud cases. And that is dependent on the size of the case and personell available to investigate. Social media is the cheapest form from a business perspective. But the are upon everyone.
If they are using social media to understand someone's mental capacity I find that hilarious. And at the same time, just typical of how out of touch their tiny minds are. Someone, please send them a link to this website. Should be a firm indicator to them that we're all fit for purpose then

Re: DWP surveillance
It would be great to know how much of the DWP's budget goes on there criminal investigations? No doubt hidden behind a wall of secrecy.

It seems part of the overall cultural trend withing the DWP to consider claimants as second class citizenry.
The adaptation of available surveillance methods to the general purpose of limiting freedoms, sadly a general trend for all type of governments but especially far-right neoliberal ones.
The weak link in this "control chain" is to be found in the ability to handle the large volume of data but with the power of modern AI one should expect a general "tightening of the belt", sort of speak.
For instance, holidaying or visiting abroad without permission from the department, has long being a valid reason to have benefits suspended but it was rarely applied to or basically come to relevance when some investigation would take place, but in future it would be certainly feasible to assume that all border crossing to be automatically checked against a claimant status.
Ways of evading state control need to become more sophisticated and as the other end of the coin, political campaigning to hold human and privacy rights need to intensify.
