Carers allowance. Empty Carers allowance.

No too sure if my wife should have been claiming this benefit, well, according to what people tell us.

I became unable to continue my job as a plasterer when I had a hop replacement in 2008. In 2010 I had my other hip replaced and this took ages before I was mobile again. Since then I have endured both knee replacements and believe me my life has not been worth living.

My wife was told she should have claimed for care allowance as she really has had to look after me for the past twelve years. We both claim ESA although my wife now receives a state pension. We both claim PIP.

I have e mailed the CAB but never got a reply from them. This seems the only forum that related to benefits etc. What is the criteria for Carers allowance.
Kind regards XXX

Welcome to the forum Onenightonly. Sorry to read of your awful situation.

Not sure if you have read these or not. Unfortunately the information available seems to be suggesting that carers allowance can only be backdated 3 months. (I am not a benefits expert, just someone who tries to help others).
