Contacting the DWP by email

I need an ‘In receipt of benefits letter’. However, this usually means having to be on-hold to the DWP’s call centre for an extended period of time ! So I was wondering if I could email them to get one of these letters. As it will be useless to anyone else, and sent through the post in a closed envelope, to my address. To save having to go through all of the security question and time wasting of being on hold . As well as the cost of phoning the DWP’s number. The work-roaches used to type them out for you, but now you need to call them instead. Hence I was wondering if it is possible to email them for a benefits letter. Thank you for reading this post .

If time is not of the essence you can ask for the information via a subject access request.

Alternatively, email your MP advising you cannot afford £x to request the information via the DWP call centre and your Jobcentre refuses to provide the information.

It might be quicker to walk into reception and ask for manager appointment ( as they can't refuse you?)

Never give them you e-mail address.

JUST WALK IN AND ASK FOR A APPOINTMENT WITH THE MANAGER. They have to give you one. It is the law.

Ask to use a JCP phone, explain you need to conserve your credit for jobsearch.

I understand that the telephones, for claimant use, have been removed from JCs now. It is still worth asking, as long as you don't have to make a special journey to your JC.

Very true C! The helpful JC officials still let claimants use the staff phones.

Thanks for the reply's, I find it strange in this day and age when the JCP expect people to have an email address for people to contact them . However, the JCP don't and trying to contact them via the electronic mail is a deadend. I could try the Area manager, but it does seem like trying to crack a walnut with a sledgehammer .

Contacting the CRT team is quicker.

It's more difficult and expensive to contact DWP than ever before! It is even worse for UC claimants and I'm not sure if UC Full service is any better from what I have read thus far!

Our local JCP has their email address on the JSA booklets they hand you so you can email them if you need to cancel an appointment.

There are online email address checkers you can use to see if your local JCP office has an email account that is working.

The trouble is Mary_FV, for me I just get that "Microsoft Outlook 2010". Which I can't work out how to use this program.   Maybe this is why they don't just put in a real email address....

I understand! The CRT route or contacting your MP is probably best for you based on past experience.

My recent responses from the CRT team say to email via correspondence@dwp.gsi.gov.uk

I assume that's any correspondence and it gets forwarded to the relevant department.

Thanks ABC, I have sent them an email to the correspondence@dwp.gsi.gov.uk. Saying could they 'forward' it if they cant help? I won't hold my breath with these people . But I will let you know if anything happen in the mean time.

Ps: I sent it via the email I use for the work-roach, so not my usual account .

Sorry Mary_FV, when I try your link all I get is the "MS Outlook StartUp", which doesn't give the email address that I can copy into my email account. Any advice how to get there email account helpful?

You can see what I mean, about not being easy for me to contact the DWP by email....

Maybe I should 'complain to the Director General' about having trouble email the DWP...

Then type your post code and your Jobcentre title manually into the subject bar.

I'm not sure Mary but I think that email just takes you to a central address, not the local Jobcentre. The postcode seems to be needed to alter the subject line to include the relevant local jobcentre but I don't think it is actually being sent directly to it ... is it?

Yes, I had a try. I got to the 'configuring' question on the MS Outlook, and then it wouldn't let me go any further.

While the problem might be with me/the pc . How easy it would be to have an email address for the DWP that you  just to type into you personal email account... "contact@dwp.gov.uk"

I suggest you try it from a Yahoo account or similar as I think this is a problem with your Outlook/PC setup.

The trouble is ABC, you click on the hyperlink and it take you direct to 'Outlook' start up , so no choice in the matter? If it had their email name I could 'cut and paste' into my email address and send it via my email provider.
