The point of this post is not clear.

This site is well moderated (thanks to Admin and Caker but also to the bulk of the rather civilised contributors) and I do not think there is a danger of degeneracy, as it seems to have happened to the "Welfare Central" site.
As for the thread topic, I would suggest doing nothing. Let's the word of mouth work its mysterious way across the internet and like the old tt site have an influence way beyond the number of subscribers.
To try too hard to involve less interested people is to invite controversy and dilution of the core values that have made the site so useful. Give time to time.

I thank the people who contribute on the forums

Re: How can we attract more members?
What makes you think any of the admin here had anything to do with WC being hacked? If a member of this site was responsible, as yet there is no proof of it, staff here cannot be held responsible for their actions. Also, most of the threats and hatred originated on WC. After the demise of the Unemployment Movement site, Welfare Central was started up but many prominent and helpful members of UM who joined were disabled with no explanation why. Because of those actions this site was created.Jackson wrote:Well I don't know a lot about forums, but i guess hacking opposition forums, posts of threats and hatred, wont do anything to attract new members, and perhaps loose the members you have got. ?

accusations and threats have now been removed and rightly so
tarquin i nearly thought the same as you, then twigged they are just pointing to the posts and something should be done about it
as other members or new joiners dont need to see that on a website and certainly not here
Re: How can we attract more members?
I think that the key to a well-run forum is an administration that is responsive to its members.
When sensible communication and reasons are given for actions taken in the interest of the forum quality. When occasionally situations escalate, intentionally or not, everybody knows there is someone who cares and can stop the rot spreading.
Surely there is a balance between freedom of speech and intimidation and a caring administration has to draw the line.
The old UM forum was a mixture of advice, self-help and anti-establishment politics and it seems that its successors have prevalently inherited most of one or the other.
Personally, I think this forum is run efficiently and with dedication and I am glad that it exists in its present form because at the end continuity is more important than drama.

Your motive appears to be driven by negative forces. Admin was wrong, but you have not been harmed in any way.
It is an unfortunate fact, that people prefer bad news to good news....
Why do people prefer "bad" news over "good" news?

Your news may attract more members.
The members on this site have been a force for good and have shared their time, knowledge and support to help and assist many people.

I do agree private messages should NOT be shared amongst all other users, admin is at fault here. He should have just disabled you and left it at that.
As for you saying this forum shares members private personal information, absolute nonsense. There's certainly been no evidence of this in the past and after this mistake from admin it should not happen ever again.
If you wish to warn others on twitter or facebook about this site, fair enough nobody can stop you. But don't you think it's rather spiteful doing this, on a site which has been very helpful to many people in the past when facing the many pitfalls of being on benefits?

The folks from WC are very vindictive. They'll try their best to destroy this forum.
Some good members have stopped posting here and it's a pity.

Re: How can we attract more members?
admin was wrong to post the requested removal from the site by the user by using reference of a private message
I have listened and taken onboard what has been said
would the next time be appropriate if I just use the reference user/op has requested there account be deleted instead ?
ex user account has now been disabled

In a similar situation I would've said something like:
ex user has requested his account be disabled as it isn't a suitable site for him. If at some point in the future he wishes to rejoin he's more than welcome.

The private request was:
"please delete my account and all my posts
ex user"
To attract and keep users, private needs to remain private and deleting posts and accounts under GDPR/The Data Protection Act 2018 needs clarification by https://respectfulbenefits.forumotion.com. Erasure of personal data should be done within "one calendar month" https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/your-right-to-get-your-data-deleted/

Re: How can we attract more members?
"(1) ‘personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person;"
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32016R0679
What are online identifiers?
Example
"An individual’s social media ‘handle’ or username, which may seem anonymous or nonsensical, is still sufficient to identify them as it uniquely identifies that individual. The username is personal data if it distinguishes one individual from another regardless of whether it is possible to link the ‘online’ identity with a ‘real world’ named individual."
https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-data-protection/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/what-is-personal-data/what-are-identifiers-and-related-factors/
I note https://respectfulbenefits.forumotion.com/t3994-is-this-not-shocking-in-the-uk#10875 has been removed from members view. Admin and moderators need to be mindful that if they discuss individual members in an Admin and Moderator only section, content may be disclosed under a GDPR request for 'personal data' direct to the Data Controller e-toxic.

well I would guess if you stopped ElephantCycle posting Troll posts it would go a long way to improving this sites standing, and gain members trust.

hi martin weather anyone has posted a troll post or not members are reminded not to accuse posters of posting troll posts its down to admin and mods to decide what is in the best interests of the site and what best action is decided upon
