I dare not mention politics at home. :  

I live with an elderly relative who thinks the Tories are doing the best they can. Any criticism of their activities(fiscal or legislative, makes no difference) leads to the retort that 'you cannot want Jeremy Corbyn'.

Actually, I think labour has some good ideas that need a bit of thought.

Elderly relative admits to not being very politically savvy. Mainly informed by the daily fail.  

I am wondering how to develop my arguments. We don't disagree about everything btw.

I can appreciate your difficulties having been brought up in a conservative household.

 

Many people I talk to in the community think benefit claimants deserve the current regime, because they believe most claimants are lazy scroungers etcetera.

If you have a rudimentary level of basic human foresight, you must understand that one day it might be you, or a member of your family, or a cherished friend who develops a disability or seriously debilitating illness. Which means that by endorsing the continuation of this systematic Tory abuse of disabled people, you're stupidly inviting it on yourself and the people close to you.

My ER is not un-supportive of my situation and does admit to having had their eyes opened to a lot of the things which we have discussed on this forum that are now coming to the media (TV, papers).  I believe that I have made some progress with 'educating' ER about things people experience (I have met people of the same generation as ER, who are more right wing and out of touch with reality than ER is ).

I think it is just Jeremy Corbyn that ER dislikes. My grandparents were conservatives but I think they would be shocked to see how bad things have become if they were alive today. My ER acknowledges this and we are able to agree about a lot of things but just not that a change of government is wanted.
