tories tried to bury this secret recording of a benefit assessment
As a safeguard, Nev Cartwright secretly recorded his face-to-face benefit assessment. But the assessor “completely altered” his results, making him seem much fitter than he actually was. So it’s no wonder the Conservative government tried to hide the recording from a tribunal court.
“Completely altered”
Cartwright undertook the assessment to apply for a Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which would help with the costs of breathing difficulties caused by a tumour. He has had three operations and a lung removed.

Audio anywhere: Benefit assessors can use their own laptop computers to create audio recordings of work capability assessments. They can then use onboard software to burn a CD of the interview and hand it to claimants on the spot. What’s the problem?

A person with memory problems is entitled to a recording, as a reasonable adjustment under the equality act, AFAIK.
Assessment centres share dual audio equipment; anyone not requesting this adjustment soon enough is likely to have their assessment postponed if the assessment centre needs to obtain the dual audio equipment from another site.
I know of one person who informed CHDAUK of their need for recording, 3 days before the WCA. CHDAUK postponed the appointment for 2 months.
