UK government programme biggest threat to our democracy

Post by Admin on Mon Sep 11, 2017 10:40 am

this is an interesting article and could effect here and other places on the net like frank zola, vox political and skwawkbox and many other sites out there

According to recently-unearthed documents, people who have participated in a demonstration, are members of a political campaign group, or who have fought the government’s cuts, can become a target of a government programme that monitors ‘extremism’.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg. And it’s more than just democracy at stake.

This 'rat on your neighbour' tactic sounds typical of the divide and conquer ideology. We have seen it before in European history (any historians on the site, please help me with some examples, which I currently cannot put my finger on).

It seeks to make individuals suspicious of their peers and therefore, presumably less likely to join together in resistance. silent

They cannot put everyone in prison though.

The thought police would get him just the same. He had committed--would have committed, even if he had never set pen to paper--the essential crime that contained all others in itself. Thoughtcrime, they called it. Thoughtcrime was not a thing that could be concealed forever. You might dodge successfully for a while, even for years, but sooner or later they were bound to get you

"Rat on your neighbour" has always be a staple of autocracies.
Was particularly loved by Fascist and Communist regimes.
However the aim was not so much to divide as to isolate and frighten.
When people feel isolated they are more prone to be compliant and circumspect in their opinions.
The internet has put a spanner in this age-old power trick but they are now experimenting with mass surveillance and interference using the medium.

As many times before repression can only prolong an inevitable fall.
The more people are repressed and controlled the more love for liberty takes secret roots even in heart of pusillanimous.
