Charities.........................
Is it me or do people think that the whole Charity model in this country needed to be reevaluated and better controlled by the gov? As yet again another tale of exploitation and greed from these company's staff?
There are more than 185,000 registered charities in England and Wales(Nov 2000). So this must be the tip of the iceberg

And lets not forget that "Charity begins at home"

Re: Charities.........................
There seems a very fine line between charities and businesses these days. A good example is the community transport sector; they get council grants and then they can undercut private taxi businesses when competing for contracts (school transport is one example). This is now being challenged and the Dept of T has clarified the regs recently.

Re: Charities.........................
I wonder how much the HMRC loses each year from these Business's Charities. As charities are a big business, you'd think that they would change the rule to make them spend the money on the front-line or pay the tax. As well as at least declare how much they spend on their staff wages and pensions funds.
"To benefit you must be recognised by HM Revenue and Customs ( HMRC ). Charities don't pay tax on most types of income as long as they use the money for charitable purposes. You can claim back tax that's been deducted, eg on bank interest and donations (this is known as Gift Aid)."

Re: Charities.........................
Please don't let me be misunderstood, I feel that charities do a lot of good. It is just the percentage of the money collected they spend on wages/administration, rather than going to the front-line/where the funds are needed.
I feel sorry for these people running marathons etc, where they say 'all the money is going to charity'. Maybe they should say "only 20% of this money collected will go to the cause, and the rest will go on paperwork".

Re: Charities.........................
I agree. I think a good or bad charity depends upon how it is administered. Two contrasting examples:-
A) My understanding is that the people, affected by the Arianna Grande incident, will each be receiving an equal share of the money raised for that cause.
In contrast:-
B) People have donated to a number of charities purporting to help Grenfell victims, yet the actual victims themselves are now needing to jump through bureaucratic hoops in order to access 'grants' from those charities which collected that money 'on behalf of Grenfell victims'.
It appears that Grenfell has done wonders for charity donations without proportionately helping those for whom the money was donated

Re: Charities.........................
I am surprised this information of how these company's spend there money is let out, as I bet all of these charity's are large political party donors.

Re: Charities.........................
I don't donate to tin shakers or anyone collecting money. I am happy to donate (old items) to charity shops and to buy from them. That is the extent of my charity supporting activity.

Re: Charities.........................
All "charities" will become corrupted.
It is the nature of the beast called Capitalism.
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network/2017/jan/15/blame-capitalism-not-corrupt-aid-for-fat-cat-charity-chiefs
Hence why your local cat charity charges "customers" £75 to adopt an animal while opening yet another charity shop in order to pay staff wages when in the past all staff were volunteers and every penny was spent on the animals. That is no longer the case. The "charity" is just another business now.

There’s no evidence that CEO pay has any impact on company performance, which reveals the true problem. Sky-high salaries for fat cat charity chiefs is not a problem of aid at all – it’s a problem of capitalism. Specifically, it’s a problem of neoliberalism, which taught us that markets are the most efficient mechanism for solving any kind of problem.
In order to play in the markets of public attention and funding, the reasoning goes, the charity sector needs to act more like the private sector – which means making charities more like corporations.
