Due to recent experiences, I decided to look into how common the experience of 'fake job interviewing' actually is. I am still doing my research, but so far I have found this:

I've been "meat in the room" many times where it has been obvious that an internal candidate has already been chosen over an external one and they are simply going through the motions. Many employers use people they have no intention of hiring in order to make up the numbers.
