Why do people return and return to foodbanks
I was at the South Chadderton foodbank this morning and talked with some of the Monday volunteers. I asked the volunteers why people were restricted to a certain number of foodbank visits in a set period of time. The limit is generally about three visits every six months or so – limits vary from place to place.
The South Chadderton volunteers said today that the limit was now four visits. wrote:

Kate B hits the nail on the head again. FBs are meant to be an emergency solution while issues get sorted out; however, they don't get sorted out swiftly so the person remains in a state of emergency.

Re: Why do people return and return to foodbanks
Thankfully i have had few dealings with the food banks in fact till this year i had never been to one but lately i am starting ot feel the pinch as the freeze on our benifits starts to kick in everythings geting more expencive and my pitifull JSA payments just dont seem to cover my liveing expences like they used to some days im reduced to one meal a day in order to make ends meet
so inevitably i decided to start makeing use of the food bank vouchers available to make ends meet i have to say i was kinda shocked at the small ammount of food they gave you given the limitations of both your food bank vouchers and duration of sanctions assorted DWP problems and cockus
thankfully i was ony useing the foodbank as a way to suplement my income and make ends meet but it did fill me with a sence of dread at the thought of haveing to live on foodbank vouchers in a real crisis, your lucky if you get 3-4 days worth of food and often its got alot of incomplete meals and wierd asorted goods that you just wouldent eat normaly and dont realy go with any of the other suplied food this one time my brother went he came back with 2 actual meals and the rest was made up of things like sweets and cakes biscuit's and crap you just couldent live on
The phrase broken britain has never been more true for those forced to suffer the degredation and humiliation and shame they feel at haveing to use a food bank in the first place only to be faced with the reality of the limited help available in there most desperate hour.

To go off topic for a moment The-Finnster, may I ask what type of food you got in the parcel? As I suspect that it isn’t the healthiest of foods? With all of the news about healthy eating and the Obesity crisis here in the UK. Is this double standards from Westminster. Of one hand saying we should eat better, then forcing people to eat ‘junk food’ due to having to use these Foodbank’s?

Re: Why do people return and return to foodbanks
When i went the stuff was ok i supose it was mostly caned goods like beans peas sardines tuna some bread pasta a jar of pasta sauce some long life milk tea bags that sorta thing there was a couple of snack type items like buiscits and some jam and some asorted chocholate snacks but overall it was nothing ot make a fuss about when it comes to healthy eating
My brother uses the food bank vouchers quite frequently with much the same results tho there has been at least 2 times when hes come back and the stuff they have given him was mostly junk food
