High Court defeat (appeal pending) for benefit cap

Post by Caker on Thu Jun 22, 2017 3:21 pm

From MSN news

The cruel Tory benefit cap has been dealt a landmark defeat in the High Court.

A judge said "real misery is being caused to no good purpose" after ruling the cap should not apply to a group of single parents whose children were under two years old.

The ruling does not mean the entire cap - which limits total benefits to £20,000 a year or £23,000 in London - is defeated.

And the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is refusing to make any changes to the cap while it appeals today's judgement.

But campaigners are likely to welcome today's judgement as a huge victory.
