my son has just turned 20 and is still at college, now that his tax credits have stopped,(due to being 20) he has to wait 5 weeks for  universal credit to come through, and attend the job center weekly. even though he can not afford to pay bus-fairs to college or the job center.as he has no money, i myself have just come off esa.and only get £73 a week to keep us both,until he gets a payment,could he get a free bus pass, or do they expect me to pay them out of my pittance, were eating beans on toast to live.

bus fair repayment is only for meetings outside of your normal signing on day

you are expected to get to the jobcenter by your own means

with a 5 week waiting time there is a loan something i dont agree upon as its taken back at repayments i believe to be at non negotiable repayments

It appears there is no clear policy regarding expenses for UC claimants (ref first FOI below).
However, DWP cannot treat UC claimants unfairly, there must be parity and a consistent level of customer service.

JSA claimants receive expenses if they are required to attend the Jobcentre on a non signing day, but it seems JC officials can arrange meetings as and when they like without offering expenses.

I would suggest a complaint via your MP. I have no doubts that 1000s of people are affected nationally.

he still as not received a penny from job center,4 weeks now, my adviser says as hes claiming jsa it should be in his bank in one to two weeks, so in fact he is paying £5 a week bus fairs to sign on,

the new system is geared to make users suffer for that month or 6 weeks as they say

its either that or you get a loan froim them putting yourself in debt before you even get there

i wonder did he get the jsag or jsag adjusted to take his circumstances into account that he couldnt afford to do much jobsearch within reason due to thew costs involved since he didnt have any money
